Built by native speakers who have run 200+ language exchange events. You learn what people actually say, not what a textbook thinks we say.

You know more Mandarin than you use.

You’ve done the work. The vocabulary, the grammar, the level test.
Then you stand in front of an actual person and none of it comes out.

After a while you start to wonder whether what you’re learning is even the stuff people actually use.

And if you’re a complete beginner it’s worse. Everyone says to practise speaking with AI — but you don’t have the sentences yet to practise with.

It is not that you have not worked hard enough. You are missing a set of sentences you can actually say out loud.

And some of what you learned, we would never actually say. We are native speakers, so we know which textbook lines nobody uses. You have no way of knowing, because nobody here will correct you to your face.

I meet them at our meetups all the time. People who have studied Mandarin for a year or two, and still only speak English once they are in the room.

The good news

You can skip the hard parts.

Most people quit Mandarin not because it is hard, but because they keep studying the 80% they do not need yet.

You will never write a character

Every line comes with pinyin and natural English. Reading characters is useful later. It is not what stops you talking tonight.

Your tones do not have to be right

Say it roughly and people still work out what you mean. They repeat it back correctly, and that is how it fixes itself. Waiting for perfect tones is why most learners never start.

No grammar rules

You learn whole phrases, so there is nothing to build while someone waits for your answer.

No zhuyin, no character lists, no exam vocabulary

None of it is wrong. It is just not what a Friday night asks of you. Deeply learning 20 common phrases beats shallowly memorising 200 words.

What is left is small. A few hundred words, and the lines that use them.

Why we built this

Speak badly. Out loud. To a real person.

An AI chat partner cannot do much for you until you have something to bring to it.

AI is convenient, and that is the quiet problem. It is comfortable enough that you never have to leave the room. It will also never give you the way people really phrase things, the accent, or the topics they actually talk about.

I once watched a friend practising Mandarin with an AI. It was cool. But I was sitting right next to her, and she could have just practised with me.

I studied English for six years at school, then landed in Australia and could not hold a conversation. Three months later I could. Not because I studied more. Because I kept talking to people, badly, until badly turned into normally.

Get the sentences first. Then practise with anyone. An AI, a tutor, the person sitting next to you. We would rather it was the person sitting next to you.

And when you say 「抱歉,我中文不太好」, most people here will answer “your Chinese is great!” We mean it. We are glad you are learning our language.

Nobody gets there by practising alone. You get there by walking up to someone.

It started with 「早上好」

“I have so many words in my head. I just can’t use them.”

A friend of mine had been studying Mandarin seriously for a year. One morning she said “早上好”, and my reaction was immediate. Nobody says that here.

What she learned
早上好
Zǎoshang hǎo
What we say
早安
Zǎo’ān · Good morning

The knowledge was there. It just was not ready for a real person. That is the gap this app was built for.

Most Mandarin apps teach you the language.
This one teaches you the conversation.

School, apps and tutors were not a mistake. They all just stop at the same place. The moment someone turns around and says hi.

That’s the part we built.

Audio that sounds like a person

Natural pace, natural phrasing, checked line by line by native speakers. If it sounds like a textbook reading itself aloud, it does not ship.

The invite-seed system

How to turn a nice conversation into a second one, without it getting weird.

Reading the polite no

What “再看看吧” actually means, and the other polite refusals you have been saying yes to.

The Summit

The last level has nothing to tap. It tells you to put the phone down and go to a real gathering, because one evening in a room full of people will teach you more than any app can.

You’re not nervous about the Mandarin.

The hard part is the ten seconds before you speak, when your mind runs through every way it could go wrong. Then what comes next. How to open, what to ask, how to get out of a silence.

Those moves are what we drill.

The method

How this actually works.

We looked at how people who pick up languages quickly actually do it, and skipped straight to the conclusion: you need bricks. Short, ready-made phrases, each one already carrying a handful of words inside it. That is how every native speaker learned their own language — whole phrases first, rules much later, or never.

The phrases people say every day

Not grammar patterns. The short, ready-made lines that come up in every conversation. You learn them whole, so there is nothing to build from scratch while someone waits for you to answer.

The high-frequency core first

711 words carry most of everyday social talk. Learn those and you’re in the conversation while others are still on chapter four.

Speak before you’re ready

Corrected by real reactions, not by an app. Everyone skips this step. It’s the one that works.

Every phrase chosen by a native speaker

All 322 of them, picked one at a time. If we would not say it, it is not in there. Plenty of textbook-correct lines did not make the cut.

How a day actually goes

Listen to the line. Say it back. Then drill it until it comes out without thinking. Recognising a line is not the same as being able to say it.

Everything you have learned goes into a review deck, and yesterday’s lines come back inside today’s 15 minutes. By the end, the sentences are still there. That is the part most apps quietly skip.

711 words unlock 322 real conversations. About 80% of everyday talk.

The trail

What you can actually do, level by level.

Before you set out Free

Say hello like someone who lives here. Then answer the four questions you will be asked every time. Where you are from, how long you have been here, why you came, and whether you can eat spicy food.

And how to hand the question straight back, so it becomes a conversation instead of an interview.

The night out

Order food, share it, react to it. Give a compliment that is not generic. Turn your own mistake into the joke, before anyone else does.

And the one sentence, dropped in before the night ends, that turns tonight into next weekend.

After you meet

Ask for their LINE without it being a moment. Send the first message so it gets a reply, not a sticker.

Plus how to hear the difference between a real “let’s do it” and the polite version people use instead of saying no.

Going deeper

A whole day out together. Prices, times and meeting points. All the small details that quietly kill plans before they happen.

And how to get the real phrasing out of the people around you. What they would actually say, instead of the version a textbook prints.

The Summit

No new sentences. One instruction: go to a real gathering and use them. There is nothing to tap, and that is the entire point.

13 levels, ending with the Summit. The first stops are free in the app. No account, no card.

After the trail

Then go and meet real people.

When you finish, the app stops being the point. Find a room. A language exchange, a club, a friend of a friend. Then use what you have.

The app gives you the sentences. Real people are where you find out they work.

Honest answers

No fluency fantasy.

What level of Mandarin will I reach?

Walk up to someone and open a conversation. Keep it going for a few minutes. Hear the difference between a real yes and a polite no. Suggest meeting again in a way that sounds normal. What you will not be doing yet is following six people talking fast about politics. That takes longer, and anyone promising it this fast is selling something.

Can a complete beginner learn Mandarin with this?

Yes. The first stage assumes no Mandarin at all. Every sentence comes with pinyin, natural English and a word-by-word breakdown. You can even bring a cheat sheet to a meetup. Honestly, that is endearing, not embarrassing.

I already know some Mandarin — will this be too easy?

The vocabulary might be. The social patterns almost certainly are not. Knowing what “再看看吧” really means is not a beginner skill, and most courses never teach it.

Does this teach Traditional Chinese or Simplified?

Traditional characters throughout, with Taiwan-accent audio. This is Mandarin as it is actually spoken, not a general course with a sticker on it.

Can I learn Taiwanese Mandarin outside Taiwan?

It still works over language exchange apps, video calls and online communities. But the trail ends by telling you to walk into a room — it’s at its best when you can actually do that.

Do I need perfect tones to be understood in Taiwan?

No. Waiting until they are perfect is the main reason people never start speaking. Pronunciation matters and it improves through use. It just does not have to come first.

Is this a subscription or a one-time purchase?

No. One payment, yours forever. You get a license key by email, enter it once, and it works on any device.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. It installs to your phone like an app and keeps working on the MRT, in a basement bar, or anywhere your signal doesn’t.

What is the refund policy?
